Proximity Voice Chat on The Isle

The Isle has no built-in voice chat. On the Asura Evrima servers, we built one: proximity voice — you talk, and only players near your dinosaur hear you. Distance is enforced server-side from live in-game positions, so what you hear always matches what’s actually around you.

It changes the game more than any mod could. Pack hunts get coordinated in real time, chance encounters turn into conversations (or panicked screaming), and the island feels alive in a way text chat never manages.

How to join voice

No install, no separate app — it runs in your browser alongside the game:

  1. Log into Nexus with your Discord account.
  2. Link your Steam account and select the server you’re playing on.
  3. Open the HUD and click the voice chat button.
  4. A voice window opens in your browser — allow microphone access and you’re live.

Keep the window open in the background (or on a second screen / your phone) while you play. That’s it.

Tip: You’ll hear an in-game reminder about voice chat every couple of hours — that’s how most players discover it. Now you know.

A few things to know

  • It’s free for every player on servers where voice is enabled.
  • Who hears you: players within audible range of your dino. Move away and voices fade.
  • Same rules as chat: the server chat rules apply to voice too — no slurs, no harassment.
  • Optional: plenty of players stay silent and just listen. Listening is half the fun.

Why we built it

Voice changes how The Isle plays — and only a handful of servers offer it. If you’ve never heard a Carnotaurus apologize after eating your juvenile, you’re missing out.

Ready to try it? Join a server, then open Nexus.
